Air Conditioning Regas Service
Stay cool and comfortable by ensuring your vehicle’s air conditioning system is working efficiently with a regas service. Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance and to keep your system in top condition.
How Much Does an Air Con Regas Cost?
The cost of an air con recharge depends on the type of refrigerant gas your vehicle uses. At MIRRACOAT, prices for regassing start from just £75. Most UK vehicles use either R134A or R1234YF refrigerant. If your system uses R134A, the cost is £75. For vehicles requiring the more modern R1234YF gas, the cost is £140. Standard service without regassing is just £50.

How Can I Tell Which Gas My Vehicle Uses?
Typically, R134A is used in vehicles built before 2014. From January 1st, 2017, all new vehicles with air conditioning must use R1234YF, a more environmentally friendly option. Between 2014 and 2016, vehicle manufacturers began transitioning to R1234YF, so cars made during this period may use either type.
When Should I Recharge My Air Conditioning?
It’s recommended that your air con is recharged every two years. Since this service is not part of an MOT or a typical vehicle service, it's important to include it as part of your regular maintenance.
If your air conditioning is blowing warm air, only working now and then, or if you notice unpleasant smells from the vents, it may be time for a recharge or a system clean. A properly charged system not only cools your car more effectively but also helps reduce fuel consumption by putting less strain on the engine.
Regas at MIRRACOAT
Our regas process is straightforward: we remove the old refrigerant and oil, perform a vacuum test to check for leaks or damage, then refill the system with the correct amount of gas and lubricant, based on your vehicle manufacturer's specification.
Regular regassing improves cooling performance and prevents unnecessary fuel usage by reducing engine strain.
If your system hasn’t been recharged in over two years, it’s likely operating far below its potential.
Air Conditioning Cleaning (Debug)
If you notice musty or unpleasant smells when switching on your air conditioning, it may benefit from an air con clean, often referred to as a debug. This treatment removes bacteria, mould, and fungi that can build up inside the system.
Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Air Con Regas
Air conditioning systems in electric and hybrid vehicles also need periodic recharging. Without it, the system may stop functioning properly and begin to blow warm air.
In electric cars, the AC system plays a vital role in thermal management—cooling key components such as batteries and electric motors, which can overheat during extended use. Efficient cooling supports optimal charging and extends battery life and performance, making AC maintenance crucial not just for comfort but for vehicle health.
Nearly all hybrid and electric models also rely on the air con system to maintain battery temperature within ideal operating ranges.
These vehicles generally use the R1234YF refrigerant, the same as many newer petrol and diesel vehicles.
